The breakthrough Hook Belt™ makes backpacking much more fun. Adjust your belt once to the perfect fit and leave it that way all day long because you can slip the external frame backpack off and on just like a beltless rucksack. While walking along the trail, you can unhook the frame from the Hook Belt and hang the weight on your shoulders for a while to ease up on your hips. Then drop the frame back onto the Hook when your shoulders start feeling tired. You can set your pack down without the waist belt dragging in the dirt, mud, and stickers. The adjustable lumbar pad allows you to set the belt to ride higher or lower on your hips. The telescoping frame adjusts automatically to any torso length... kids or adults.
A 24 ounce Ultralight Pack - -
If you have a very light load, leave the Hook Belt at home and use just two Cylinders (2890 cu-in)... the total weight of the telescoping external frame with shoulder straps and two gear Cylinders is only 24 ounces. And it still flips into a high back trail chair. The weight of the Pack with 3 cylinders on the Frame, the Hook Belt, and the Seat Pad is 2 lbs 8oz.
A 33lb Pack - -
If you are an ultralite hiker, you will be carrying 30 lbs or less for a week long trip. The LuxuryLite Pack with all the pieces supplied weighs only 3 pounds, including the separate Front Pack to carry your water, camera, snacks, etc. The weight in the Front Pack counterbalances the backpack making your total load feel lighter. And, unlike other ultralite packs, you can easily carry any bear canister laying on the frame shelf with two or three Cylinders resting on top.
Trail & Camp Chair - -
The flip-out sitpad converts your pack into a high back trail/camp chair that works at any angle... straight up for cooking, or way back for napping. On the trail, you can be sitting in comfort 10 seconds after your group stops for any reason. Two air bags are included to fill up the cylinders in camp when all your gear is removed from the pack.
Gear Cylinders Keep Your Pack Organized and Dry - -
Individual rain-proof coated nylon Cylinders make it easy to keep large amounts of gear organized and immediately accessible through the full-width opening. Rain-shedding Velcro closures keep your gear dry and clean.. and never jam like zippers do. Even if drinks or fuel spills inside one Cylinder, the others stay dry. The Cylinders are easy to fit through airport security scanners and stow on the plane because you can pop any Cylinder off the frame in five seconds and the frame telescopes down to legal carry-on size. For those long airport hikes, roll up the Hook Belt and stow it inside one of the Cylinders and max out the length of the shoulder straps... the pack is very comfortable hanging low like a high school kid's book pack.
If you like to camp in private, this set of gear Cylinders is very stealthy... looking just like old logs and shadows in the woods. Don't worry about heat... the black color will not cause your pack to be hot inside or outside. The California Condor and the many other black birds live in the sun all day.
Fabric is rain-proof polyurethane coated nylon packcloth. The full-width velcro "shark jaw" opening allowing large items to be easily packed and removed with no digging. You can easily put an 18' long piece of gear into the 18" wide Big Cylinder. All the approved bear canisters for food will fit easily inside the Big Cylinder or outside resting on the frame shelf. Two Velcro loops at the back of each Cylinder wrap loosely around the vertical frame tubes. All the weight is carried by the frame shelf because the Cylinders stack on top of each other. There is very little stress on the fabric, allowing the Cylinders to be lighter without reducing reliability.
The set of 3 Cylinders will hold more gear than a typical internal frame pack rated at 6,000 cubic inches because there are no wasted corners and double-counted pockets. You will be able to easily fit all your gear and a week's food in this set of Cylinders if you are using up-to-date lightweight equipment including a down sleeping bag, 5 lb two man tent, reasonable extra clothes, compact kitchen system, and inflatable sleeping pads (or better yet... our UltraLite Cot). Long items like Z-Rest pads and 20 inch tent poles can be placed on the shelf with the Cylinders stacked on top. The LuxuryLite® Frame can hold up to 2 Standard plus 2 Big Cylinders packed full.
--Each of the two Big Cylindesr has a volume of 1760 cubic inches. 47cm (18.5") wide, 28cm (11") diameter.
--The one midsize Standard Cylinder has a volume of 1130 cubic inches. 41cm (16") wide, 24cm (9.5") diameter.
--Total volume is 4660 cubic inches or 76 liters.
--Fabric weight is about 300 denier.
